The slot decides the muff before the rating

The number on the box only counts if the cup actually seats on the hard hat your crew runs. A helmet-mounted or cap-mount order is settled by the side-slot fit first, then the cushion seal, then SNR. SafeMuff checks it in that order, so a crew already in head protection gets hearing protection that drops into position and stays put.

For contractors or distributors serving both helmet and non-helmet crews, SafeMuff can supply cap-mount, slot-mount and headband earmuffs from the same hearing-protection range, with aligned packaging and rating language.

Built for common 30 mm hard-hat side slots

Slotted construction hard hats commonly have a side accessory slot close to 30 mm wide. SafeMuff builds the bracket around that slot size, then checks the real fit on the hard hat used by your crew before production.

Market label terms US quote sheets can use cap-mount earmuff or hard hat-mounted earmuff. UK/EU packaging can use hard hat ear defenders. SafeMuff keeps the approved build the same and matches quotation, manual and box copy to the target market.

How to check your hard hat fits

  1. Look for a side slot. A thin rectangular opening on each side of the shell, just above the brim, is the accessory slot.
  2. Measure the width. A typical opening is about 30 mm across. SafeMuff brackets are made around that slot size.
  3. No slot? Smooth full-brim or non-slotted shells have no side accessory slot. For those crews, SafeMuff can supply a headband or behind-the-neck model from the Safety range.
  4. Confirm with a sample. Send the hard hat brand, model or a clear photo of the slot. SafeMuff seats a sample on it before any production run.
Fit checkSafeMuff does not mark a helmet brand as tested until a sample has been seated on that shell. During sampling, we check seating depth, cup height and cushion seal.

Why a slot-mount seal behaves differently from a headband

A headband earmuff presses the cup down onto the head from above. A slot-mount earmuff has no band — the bracket arm comes out of the side slot and clamps the cup against the head from the side. That shifts what has to be right at sample stage.

1

Clip force comes from the arm, not a band

The bracket arm’s spring sets the cushion seal pressure. Too loose, the cup leaks at the front edge; too tight, it tires the wearer and lifts at the back.

2

Clearance for safety glasses

The cup has to clear the temple arm of safety eyewear so the seal is not broken by the glasses — checked in both the working and parked position.

3

A parked detent that actually holds

When hearing protection is not needed, the cup swings up to a parked detent above the brim. That detent has to hold through head movement, not drop back onto the ear.

4

Seating depth in the 30 mm slot

The bracket has to seat fully in the slot so the cup sits at the right height over the ear. A shallow seat lifts the cushion and leaks.

Three cap-mount and slot-mount versions to sample

SafeMuff carries three cap-mount builds for hard-hat orders: everyday, high-attenuation and dielectric. The same 30 mm bracket sits under each build; the cup depth, cushion pressure and frame material change with the noise level and electrical-safety requirement. Headband, neckband and folding passive models remain in the Safety Earmuffs range.

The mount is proven on a real helmet before the run starts

A cap-mount earmuff has more to prove than a headband model. Slot seating depth, bracket-arm spring, parked detent, eyewear clearance and cushion seal all affect whether the published rating becomes real protection on the worker.

  • Hard-hat check: SafeMuff seats the sample in your hard hat before sign-off, not just on a loose bracket.
  • Repeat control: Once the sample is approved, bracket-arm spring, cushion fit and packaging claim stay locked for repeat orders.

Slot-fit verification

The sample is seated in your hard hat and checked for slot depth, cup height and seal before sign-off.

Made from molding to QC

Cup, bracket and cushion are tooled and assembled in one place, so the cap-mount fit is repeatable.

Order-document support

Rating file, packaging and carton spec can stay aligned with your wider hearing-protection line.

Since 2021, on 4,000 m²+. ISO 9001 / 14001, BSCI and SGS records available; rating and certificate files are confirmed per selected model.

Fit-check the hard hat before private label

A cap-mount order starts with the hard hat, not the box design. SafeMuff seats samples on your own shell, checks the 30 mm slot, cup height, cushion seal, eyewear clearance and parked position, then approves a pilot run before colour, logo and packaging are locked. The chosen build — standard, high-attenuation or dielectric — is fixed after the helmet fit is proven.

Samples

A few pieces seated on your own hard hat to confirm slot fit, cushion seal, eyewear clearance and parked detent.

Step 2
Stock order

An unbranded run for a project crew, pilot order or distributor PPE shelf test.

Step 3

Your colour, logo, selected version and manual language from 500 pieces per model.

Step 4
Private label

Retail packaging, carton, barcode and label locked to the approved sample for repeat hard-hat PPE orders.

i

Slot fit is the one spec to settle first. SafeMuff seats a sample in your hard hat’s 30 mm slot, confirms the selected build, rating file and packaging claim, then keeps that approved setup for repeat orders.

Questions before a helmet-mounted order

Will SafeMuff helmet-mounted or cap-mount earmuffs fit my hard hat?
SafeMuff cap-mount and slot-mount earmuffs are made for common 30 mm side accessory slots on many slotted construction hard hats. Send the hard hat brand and model, or a clear photo of the side slot, and SafeMuff checks seating depth, cup height and cushion seal with a sample before production.
What is the difference between helmet-mounted and standard safety earmuffs?
Standard safety earmuffs use a headband worn over the head. Helmet-mounted or cap-mount earmuffs clip into the side slot of a hard hat, so the worker keeps head protection on while adding hearing protection. For mixed PPE orders, SafeMuff can supply cap-mount and headband earmuffs with aligned packaging and rating language.
Are helmet-mounted earmuffs as protective as headband earmuffs?
When the bracket seats correctly and the cushion seals around the ear, attenuation can be comparable to a headband earmuff with the same cup version. SafeMuff cap-mount and slot-mount versions sit across the SNR 25–32 dB range; the exact figure is confirmed from the selected sample.
Do you make a dielectric non-conductive cap-mount earmuff?
Yes. SafeMuff supplies a dielectric cap-mount version with a non-conductive frame for electrical, utility and live-line PPE orders. The exact rating and certificate file are confirmed with the selected sample.
Can the earmuffs be moved off the ears when not needed?
Yes. The cap-mount bracket has a parked position that swings the cups clear of the ears without removing the earmuff from the hard hat. The hold and clearance are checked on the sample.
Do helmet-mounted earmuffs work with safety glasses and face shields?
The cups are shaped to work around common safety eyewear, but the seal depends on the exact hard hat, glasses and face shield. SafeMuff checks eyewear and visor clearance against your sample before a branded run.
Do you support OEM and private label, and what is the MOQ?
Yes. SafeMuff supports cup colour, dual-colour options, logo, retail packaging, manual language, version selection and carton details for OEM and private-label orders. Custom cap-mount helmet earmuffs start at an MOQ of 500 pieces per model.
Can we order samples before a full run?
Yes. SafeMuff supplies sample pieces so you can verify side-slot fit, cushion seal, parked-position clearance and eyewear or visor compatibility before production. Standard production is about 25 days after sample approval.
